Mer

This project was for a good cause: it was an auction piece to raise money for "Cape Ann Art Haven" of Gloucester, Massachusetts. The auction included dozens of these painted buoys; an object common to Gloucester's waters and beaches, transformed into a work of art. Local artists showcased their creativity and talent, some using traditional painting methods like me, some thinking outside the box by using carving and metalworking techniques.

This project was great for me in many ways. First, it got me interested in oil painting again. The only experience I've had with oils was one class in college, I've never used them on my own--mostly due to the inconvenience of using paint thinners and other chemicals. This project was really enjoyable though, and I intend to explore oils more fully this year.

Second, this project allowed my artwork some public exposure! I'm thrilled that other local artists as well as townspeople (including the mayor!) were able to see my work in this auction. I'm also thrilled that the proceeds from the auction are providing art classes to local students as well as adults.

Spread the creativity, spread it far and wide! ^_^

  3. When we saw "Mer" at the buoy action we both fell in love with her. She is a true work of art! She is hanging from a pine rafter in our living room. You are a gifted artist. Do you have any other work to share or do you exhibit somewhere here in Gloucester?

  4. Oh I'm so glad you found my blog! I'm very happy to hear that my buoy found a good home and that you're enjoying her :). At the moment, this blog is really the only place online to see my artwork. However, I am having an art show during the month of March (2011) in the lobby of CinemaSalem, the movie theatre in downtown Salem! If you'd like to see more of my work, you could make a night of it and see a movie as well! :)

Thanks so much for your comments!
